We've come to a point that graphics are getting so close to looking real, that it's hard to make significant progress in them, because it takes orders of magnitude more processing power and development to do so.

I agree with Felix though, the human animations are pretty off. But once we manage to perfect that, It's gonna almost impossible to tell.

Cant wait to be able to run something like this in 5 years when GPUs are available again.

Photorealistic graphics are without a doubt very impressive but for me, art style and art design will always be much more important.

The main things that give it away still are the stiff mouth movements and the body language. People make little micromovements, which these avatars don't do. Additionally, digital avatars don't account for things like kinetic energy and gravity when moving around. When we do something like wave, jump, or start walking, our mass takes a moment to get moving from a resting state or when changing direction because it needs to overcome inertia. This should scale based on mass, for example, the acceleration curve should look a lot different for an avatar that starts running than an arm that starts waving. Currently, it breaks the illusion every time a digital human makes a movement that doesn't account for the laws of motion. It's such a subtle thing, but our eyes and brains are well adapted at picking these things out. Until animators and game engines can master inertia, and clean up those mouth movements, we're going to see right through it, though it is definitely getting better, at least until they start moving and running their mouths lol.

Its funny that the people probably do not look worse than the other parts in the videos but that our brains are just fully trained to capture every little detail in faces. I think that is a major reason why people dont look realistic in our eyes

Been seeing this for ages, we’re not gonna get it until we realise that the realism is NOT about the image, it is about THE MOTION.

I'm scared of the time when the developers have to add that artificial touch to the character design to distinguish it from reality.

Love how it started off like a normal video and then philosophical Felix just comes in for the last couple minutes talking about reality. We love

Something that they mostly don't think about and that will give a good detail to digital characters, is the tongue movement when the character talks. If they make the tongue move, touch the teeths and make some pauses while the character is trying to talk, like if the words where coming to their minds before they could say it, it would be much more realistic

It’s strange how they can make everything look so real except for the humans. I think it has more to do with the movement than the physical details of the face because they look like a photograph when they’re still, but we’re just so attuned to people, and people’s faces, that we can tell whenever something is slightly off with them.

Imagine in a few years getting a fully in depth open world matrix game that looks like this where the goal is to break out of the matrix and when you do the game ends. (And you play as your own character, not like neo or trinity or anyone like that)

The issue with these animations is the perfection of their physics.

Imagine in the future kids play games related to history and they can travel to the past at any time and it would look this realistic they also have to do quest aka hws that would be awesome
